SEDA Dental Extreme Smile Makeover - Meet Daletnia

SEDA Dental decides to pick a 2nd winner for the Extreme Smile Makeover Audition. Meet Daletnia.

Patient Story – Daletnia

Daletnia:
Hi, my name is Daletnia Cabrerra Perez. A few months ago everything was upside down and life changed and your normal is not normal anymore and the chances of you living is cut down by so much. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 leiomyosarcoma cancer. It affects your reproductive system in females and it attacks 1 in a million people. I was told I had a 15% chance of living. It was best that I did get a full hysterectomy and 6 inches of my small intestine removed in order to save my life. At this time, they had me going under chemo and the chemo will help to prevent any tumors to grow back. Economically, it's been very difficult being that I was working full time. I was working, I can say 60-70 hours a week. I was so dedicated. The doctor comes and tells me, "Now I'm gonna consider you disabled because we can't have you working that many hours and so much stress on your life." No work. I'm unemployed trying to figure out life and social workers deciding what's next for you. And seeing if you qualify for social security at 33. With the chemo and with my previous dental issues I have, it makes things worse. You lose a lot of teeth and a lot of enamel and it wears down on your gums. You lose all your taste and everything starts to taste like metal. My current smile affects my everyday life. I've learned to talk a certain way where people don't know that I have a dental problem. I don't laugh by showing my teeth. When I speak, I speak a certain way where I barely don't move my lips to show any type of teeth. I heard about the Seda Dental Extreme Smile Makeover from a friend in New York and she just posted it on Facebook and I said, "You know what? Why can't I audition for it as well. Let me see. Let me take a chance. You never know." "I can show you I've lost the majority of my teeth." The worst part of anything is to wait. And I would constantly check the website and I would also look at the Facebook page to see if they announced anything and I'm like, "There's so many people that deserve it."

Dr. Wang:
This extreme smile makeover contest was extremely difficult to actually choose the person for this reward. We got to meet all of the contestants. We deliberated for many days, trying to figure out who was the right person. We finally chose Sam.

SEDA Dental Team Member:
Big Sam! You know what this means, Sam?

Sam:
Oh. You got to be kidding me.

SEDA Dental Team Member:
Sam, you know who's getting an extreme smile makeover? Congratulations!

Sam:
Aw, thank you so much!

Daletnia:
I watched Sam's video and he made an impact on me. He's a guy that works two jobs and he has his family and he has his kids. And I'm very happy for Sam. He does deserve his new smile.

Dr. Wang:
Sam was the one that we picked but at this point, it was so difficult that we felt there was another contestant that was- we wanted to help them along.

Dr. Rubinstein:
There was one other person who really had an amazing story. It's someone who's a fighter. Daletnia, how you doing?

Daletnia:
Good, and yourself? Nice to meet you.

Dr. Rubinstein:
Great. Nice to meet you. What's going on?

Daletnia:
Nothing much here. Getting my teeth checked.

Dr. Rubinstein:
That's a good thing. Let me introduce you to Dr. Wang.

Dr. Wang:
Hi, I'm Dr. Wang. Nice to meet you.

Daletnia:
Nice to meet you.

Dr. Wang:
Daletnia?

Daletnia:
Yes.

Dr. Wang:
Is that how you say it?

Daletnia:
Daletnia.

Dr. Rubinstein:
Daletnia.

Daletnia:
Or D. D.

Dr. Rubinstein:
D. That's even easier.

Dr. Wang:
We want to help and join her fight to help battle this cancer.

Daletnia:
When I saw my x-rays, I was like, "Oh, oh boy." And when he started seeing that I needed to have all my teeth pulled, it just became like everyone's there but they're not there 'cause you're just realizing how bad you've let your teeth get.

Dr. Rubinstein:
So let's be realistic here. You're more than likely gonna lose the remaining upper teeth which I think that you pretty much know already. They're just weak and they're not doing well.

Dr. Wang:
We need to help her battle through this. And we just felt that it was basically our duty to get this done for her.

Dr. Rubinstein:
How are you doing, are you okay?

Daletnia:
Yes. Doing great.

Dr. Rubinstein:
Awesome, awesome. I just spoke to your physician.

Daletnia:
Okay.

Daletnia:
I remember it like it was yesterday. It was funny because he started off saying, "I have good news and bad news."

Dr. Rubinstein:
The bad news is we're gonna get a chance to know each other. The good news is you've been selected.

Daletnia:
What?

Dr. Rubinstein:
Yup.

Daletnia:
I am so excited!

Dr. Rubinstein:
So are we.

Daletnia:
You don't understand how this is gonna change my life.

Dr. Rubinstein:
I know it will.

Daletnia:
Just the fact that they picked more than one person just shows you that they're not in it, as they say, for the money. That they're in it to help people and they were only gonna pick one person. They chose to help two people out when necessarily, they should have just helped one.

Daletnia:
I'm so ready.

Dr. Rubinstein:
Awesome.

Daletnia:
That makes you realize that people do care. And they do wanna honestly help you. And just the fact that I made an impact on them and the fact that they're making an impact on me, this is now just one more thing that I can breathe. I'm excited. I'm ready. I'm ready.
