New Year’s Resolutions for Your Smile

What do you resolve to do differently this year?

Most folks set a goal to get more sleep, lose weight, exercise more, travel, or read a few books.

There is one set of resolutions you may not have considered yet: New Year’s resolutions for your smile.

Why Set Smile Resolutions?

By setting goals now and sticking to them, you can avoid a lot of trouble. The smallest changes in your diet and routine can forestall the need for expensive treatment down the road.

Besides that, you smile will look a lot nicer this year!

Bad Habits You Should Break

There are some very common dental habits that cause more trouble than people realize.

Some of these include:

  • Opening packages with your teeth
  • Chewing ice
  • Teeth grinding and clenching
  • Brushing too aggressively

All of these activities will weaken your teeth or wear enamel, increasing the likelihood of tooth fractures.

Some habits (like the rough tooth-brushing and teeth clenching habit) tend to occur without you being aware of it. You’ll need some professional dental counseling and advice to deal with those.

Set Smile-Healthy Goals For 2017

Bad habits can be tough to break. On top of this, our teeth are almost constantly exposed to some kind of acid that wears down enamel and promotes the start of cavities.

Fortunately, there are some proactive resolutions you can set to strengthen your teeth:

  • Resolve to floss daily
  • Aim to brush at least twice a day
  • Cut back on sugar
  • Reduce acid sources in your diet (soda, coffee, citrus fruits, etc.)
  • Get at least two dental checkups per year

Kick off your new year to a great start with the help of SEDA Dental. The SEDA team will help you figure out how to reach your smile goals this year. Contact an office near you to learn more.
