Even if you brush and floss regularly, plaque still accumulates on your teeth and gums. Left untreated, plaque will typically cause cavities and/or gingivitis. That’s why you should have your teeth cleaned and examined by a dental professional once every six months. Left unchecked, cavities develop into bigger problems that may require tooth extractions and dental implants.
SEDA Dental’s caring professionals will examine your teeth for any evidence of decay, teeth grinding or other disorders. We will then remove any plaque that may have built up and polish your teeth. We also suggest you have X-rays taken during your check-up.
Recommended Oral Hygiene
Our dentists recommend proper oral hygiene including:
- Brush thoroughly twice a day using a toothpaste with fluoride
- Floss daily
- Eat a balanced diet and limit snacks between meals
- Rinse with a fluoride mouthwash if your dentist recommends
Our dentists recommend dental exams twice a year. Our gentle exam typically begins with an oral examination to evaluate your dental hygiene. If you feel any teeth discomfort the next step would be to take x-rays to get a better picture of the root of the problem.
The reason a dentist cleans teeth is to remove plaque and tartar (mineralized plaque) build up that brushing and flossing cannot. Plaque may be visible as a yellow film that stains the enamel coating of the tooth, particularly near the gum line. Removing plaque and tartar promotes healthy gums and reduces the risks of cavities.
